ABOUT ME

Hello.

Frank Atkinson here. I wanted to tell a little about myself and my website babyboomersinterests.com. I was born in the biggest state in the 48 contiguous states in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. TEXAS!

I have to say that 268,820 square miles is a lot of land mass, and a population still growing at 26.4 million residents. Can you imagine having to drive 3 days just to get to one of our borders? We are Big!!

AUSTIN TEXAS

I was born in Brackenridge hospital in 1947 in Austin, the state capital of Texas, 2 days before the TEXAS CITY DISASTER of April 16, 1947.

Texas city burns to the ground!  581 souls lost!  All but one of the Texas City fire department Fire Fighters perished in the explosion that leveled the entire City.

The explosion caused by 2,300 tons of ammonia igniting and causing a chain reaction of fires and explosions from ship to ship in the port.

Who are the Baby Boomers?

We are the baby’s born after WWll between 1946 and 1964.  A lot of men and women retiring, or getting ready to retire and leave the work force.

Did you know that there is more women baby boomers than men?  The women out numbered the men by two million.

I guess I could say I am a  Baby Boomer, as we are called. Baby Boomers Interests range from Health Care, Retirement, starting new careers and enjoying our lives after working all these years and paying our dues. These dreams are being shattered by this awful economy.

Don’t get me wrong.

Now that I have retired, I LOVE IT, wouldn’t trade it for the world. We are being saddled with higher debt and our savings and 401 K and our company sponsored retirement contributions are being eaten away to nothing.

I lost my 401 K so I can relate. I was forced into retirement when my company closed the construction division. Fired!  Yes, fired 52 men and women, my self included, the CEO and all the department heads.

No lateral transfer, no other positions available, We were just a number and our number was up.

JOB HUNTING

Feel my pain?

16 million men and women out of work because of this administrations failures and I am out looking for a job!!! Gee!! I am a Master Electrician, 66 years old, as high as I can get in my field, and no job. After being out of work for 2 years and no job in site, I QUIT!!

Finally decided to retire.

I know what you are going through. Been there, done that. Some of you are able to hang on to the job you have and just hope they don’t tell you you have to go because your getting to old.

It is hard to retire when there is no money.

Walmart greeter, Home Depot, Lowes. These are all good viable second income sources.

I didn’t even know how to turn on a computer three years ago. No kidding, I knew nothing about computers. But my wife (Ginny) has been using computers all her working career. I mean Ginny started using computers when they had PUNCH CARDS.

Can you believe it?

I asked WHY punch a bunch of holes in a piece of card board  to tell  this machine to print out a piece of paper saying what you just printed?

Sounds like a copy machine. Just type it I said.

You know how that went over, right?

Ginny’s mama is 86 years old and working on the computer. By gosh, if she can do it, I know dern well I can and you can to. “Y’all aint got nothing on me”

If you are already retired you know it is tough getting buy with your retirement.

Unfortunately some have nothing but Social Security and a little savings to fall back on. Me included Boys and Girls. With the cuts in Medicare, we worry about our future health and our limited income.

I never thought I would retire, much less be with out a job and forced to retire. But life “aint” all that bad. You can do something about it by looking at Wealthy Affiliate and their programs.
